The ground shook as the hooves of the horses beat upon it (земля задрожала, когда копыта лошадей застучали по ней; to shake), hauling the returning chariots towards him (/лошадей/, тащивших возвращающиеся колесницы /прямо/ на него). The tall tower of the castle suddenly cracked and crumbled into the flames (высокая башня замка внезапно раскололась и рухнула в пламя; to crumble — крошить/ся/, обвалиться) which leapt higher and brightened the night (которое прыгнуло = взметнулось выше и озарило ночь; to brighten — очищать, полировать; осветлять, озарять) to show Earl Glandyth whipping the horses as he bore down on Corum once again (чтобы показать = и стало видно, как граф Гландит подгоняет лошадей, мчась к Коруму снова; to bear down on).

And Corum had learned the lust for revenge.

Corum clambered over the bodies of the horses (Корум перебрался через тела лошадей; to clamber — карабкаться, взбираться) and swung his sword at Glandyth's neck (и ударил мечом по шее Гландита; to swing — качать/ся/, размахивать), but the blow was blocked by a gorget (но удар был блокирован = пришелся на латный воротник; gorget — ожерелье; латный воротник /как часть военного обмундирования/) and the huge, hairy head turned (огромная лохматая голова повернулась; hairy — волосатый, мохнатый) and the pale grey eyes glared at Corum (и бледно-серые глаза злобно посмотрели на Корума; to glare — ослепительно сверкать; пристально, свирепо смотреть). Then Glandyth leapt from the chariot and Corum leapt too (затем Гландит соскочил с колесницы /на землю/ и Корум спрыгнул тоже; to leap), to come face to face with the destroyer of his family (чтобы встретиться лицом к лицу с убийцей своей семьи; to destroy — разрушать; истреблять, убивать).
