12. Colds and Flu
It’s January now. I haven’t caught a cold and I haven’t got flu. So, I think I am really lucky. I think I had more colds when I lived in England. In the winter, it is always so wet, cold and windy. You get wet on your way to work if you have to travel by public transport. Then you get to your office and you have to sit all day in wet clothes. When I catch a cold, I feel cold and then hot. I start sneezing. And I get a high temperature. Then my nose starts running. I have to blow my nose every five minutes and I really hate it. You can’t breathe through your nose. And it is really uncomfortable. And there is nothing you can do about it. You can take vitamins, eat a lot of fresh fruit and drink a lot of hot tea. But I don’t think anything works. Not really. And if you get a bad cough you can get some cough medicine. But most people don’t go to see the doctor. There is nothing the doctor can really do. I think the best thing is to continue your normal life. I always try to get a lot of fresh air and go for long walks. I don’t like to stay at home in bed. I don’t really have flu very often. The first time I had flu was four or five years ago. I had no energy. I did not want to get out of bed. I did not want to eat. I didn’t want to drink. I just felt dead. I just wanted to stay in bed and sleep. I could not imagine what was wrong with me. Real flu is horrible. And again, there is nothing you can do. There are some medicines and hot lemon drinks. They help a little bit. But all you can do is stay in bed and just sleep until it goes away. If men get flu they always think they are dying. They think that everyone has got to cook special food and do everything for them. But women just wait until they get better.
