`Corum. Forgive the interruption (прости прерывание = что отвлекаю тебя; to forgive-forgave-forgiven; interruption — перерыв, пауза, помеха).

One day he sought his son, Prince Corum, in a chamber where music was formed by the arranging of hollow tubes, vibrating wires and shifting stones. The very simple, quiet music was almost drowned by the sound of Khlonskey's feet on the tapestries, the tap of his staff and the rustle of the breath in his thin throat.

Prince Corum withdrew his attention from the music and gave his father a look of polite enquiry.

`Father?

`Corum. Forgive the interruption.

'Of course (конечно = ничего). Besides (кроме того), I was not satisfied with the work (я не был доволен произведением = музыка не шла; work — работа, труд, занятие; произведение, сочинение). Corum rose from his cushions (поднялся с подушек; to rise — вставать, всходить, подниматься; to rise-rose-risen) and drew his scarlet robe about him (и накинул свой алый плащ /на плечи/; to draw — тащить, волочить; натягивать).

`It occurs to me, Corum (думаю, Корум; to occur to somebody — приходить на ум /о мыслях, словах/; to occur — случаться, происходить), that I will soon visit the Chamber of Vapours (что скоро посещу Зал Туманов), said Prince Khlonskey (сказал принц Клонски; to say-said-said), `and, in reaching this decision (и, в принятии этого решения = но до того; to reach a decision — принять решение; to reach — достигать, добираться), I had it in mind to indulge a whim of mine (я намереваюсь позволить себе некую прихоть; to have in mind — иметь в виду, подразумевать, учитывать; mind — разум, мышление, память; to indulge — потворствовать, не отказывать себе в чем-то; whim — прихоть, каприз). However (тем не менее), I will need your help (мне понадобится твоя помощь; to need — иметь потребность, нуждаться, быть необходимым).

Now Prince Corum loved his father (любил своего отца) and respected his decision (и уважал его решение), so he said gravely (поэтому сказал серьезно):

'Of course. Besides, I was not satisfied with the work. Corum rose from his cushions and drew his scarlet robe about him.

`It occurs to me, Corum, that I will soon visit the Chamber of Vapours, said Prince Khlonskey, `and, in reaching this decision, I had it in mind to indulge a whim of mine. However, I will need your help.

Now Prince Corum loved his father and respected his decision, so he said gravely:

`That help is yours (эта помощь — твоя = разумеется, я помогу), Father. What can I do (что я могу сделать /для тебя/)?

`I would know something (я бы узнал = хотелось бы узнать что-нибудь) of the fate of my kinsmen (о судьбе моих родственников). Of Prince Opash (о принце Опаше), who dwells at Castle Sarn in the East (который живет в замке Сарн на востоке). Of Princess Lorim (о принцессе Лорим), who is at Castle Crachah in the South (на юге). And of Prince Faguin of Castle Gal in the North (на севере).

Prince Corum frowned (нахмурился; to frown — хмурить брови, смотреть неодобрительно).

`Very well, Father, if… (очень хорошо, отец, если…)

`That help is yours, Father. What can I do?

`I would know something of the fate of my kinsmen. Of Prince Opash, who dwells at Castle Sarn in the East. Of Princess Lorim, who is at Castle Crachah in the South. And of Prince Faguin of Castle Gal in the North.

Prince Corum frowned.

`Very well, Father, if…

`I know, son, what you think (знаю, сын, о чем ты думаешь) — that I could discover what I wish to know (что я мог бы узнать /то/, что желаю /знать/; to discover — узнавать, обнаруживать; делать открытие) by occult means (/используя/ оккультные средства; means — средство, способ, метод). Yet this is not so (однако это не так). For some reason (по какой-то причине) it is difficult to achieve intercourse with the other planes (трудно добиться контакта с другими плоскостями; intercourse — общение, связи, отношения). Even my perception of them (даже мое восприятие их) is dimmer than it should be (слабее, чем /это/ должно быть), try as I might (как бы я ни старался) to enter them with my senses (/чтобы/ проникнуть в них своими чувствами; to enter — входить, проникать, вступать). And to enter them physically (а войти в них физически) is almost impossible (почти невозможно). Perhaps it is my age… (возможно, это мой возраст = пришла старость)
