The monograph of Vladimir Schneider and Sergei Ktitorov is written in the spirit of local history. The subject of the authors interest is one of the largest community of Russian Germans in the North Caucasus. It was formed in Armavir in the last third of the XIX - early XX centuries. However, the influence of Russian subjects of German origin in the history of Armavir can be traced from the early days of its foundation in 1839. Undoubtedly, the most important among them was the founder of Armavir, General G.H. Von Sasse. The first part of the monograph is devoted to him and his companions, Russian officers - ethnic Germans. The second chapter shows the history of German migration to the region of Armavir, identified areas of their former residence and shows the sources of the formation of the German community of Armavir after Vladikavkaz railway was built in 1875. The third chapter is devoted to analysis of changes in the number of Germans in Armavir in the late XIX century up to 1941. The fourth chapter shows the scopes of professional employment of the German population in Armavir. In the firth chapter the authors review problems of social and ethnic consolidation of Germans in Armavir. They tell us about religion, education, social circle and the relationship of various social, religious and territorial (regarding the place of departure) groups of the Russian Germans. Everyday life of Germans, the areas where they lived in Armavir, living conditions and the level of material well-being are considered in chapter six. In the seventh chapter the authors consider the peculiarities of the political life of small ethnic and cultural groups of Germans in the South Russian province since the end of the XIX century up to 1941. In the same chapter of the monograph, the authors make a brief review of the acute problems of history of Armavir"s Germans during World War II and the early postwar years. The last, eighth chapter, is devoted to the analysis of changes in the number of Germans in both Krasnodar region and Armavir in the second half of the XX - early XXI centuries, and the milestones in the history of Armavir"s German public associations from 1990 up to the present day.

The monograph contains comprehensive appendixes that includes a variety of tables, charts, illustrations, etc. The descendants of Armavir"s Germans could be particularly interested in this genealogical guide, which is based on careful data processing of metric books of the Lutheran worship house in Armavir (1889 - 1921"s) and on local archive of 1920-1930's registration documents .

The text of the book is written in easily understood language. This book is addressed not only to professional historians, but also to a large audience.

Die Monographie von Wladimir Schneider und Sergej Ktitorov ist im Geiste der lokalen Geschichte geschrieben.

Der Gegenstand des Interesses der Autoren war einst die gr"osste Stadtgemeinschaft der Russlanddeutschen im Nordkaukasus. Sie wurde im Verlauf des letzten Drittels des 19. und fr"uhen 20. Jahrhunderts in Armawir gebildet. Doch der Einfluss der russischen Untertanen deutscher Abstammung auf die Geschichte der Stadt Armawir war seit den ersten Tagen ihrer Entstehung im Jahr 1839 zur"uckzuf"uhren. Nat"urlich hatte die gr"osste Bedeutung unter ihnen der Gr"under der Stadt Armawir General G.H. von Sass. Ihm und seinen Gef"ahrten, russischen Offizieren - ethnischen Deutschen, ist das erste Kapitel der Monographie gewidmet.

Im zweiten Kapitel wird ein "Uberblick "uber die Migrationsgeschichte der Deutschen in die Region Armawir verschafft, die Bereiche ihrer ehemaligen Wohngebiete identifiziert, und die Quellen der Bildung der deutschen Gemeinde von Armawir nach Fertigstellung der Wladikawkas Eisenbahn im Jahr 1875 angezeigt.

Das dritte Kapitel ist der Analyse von Ver"anderungen der Anzahl der Deutschen in Armawir ab Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis zum Jahr 1941 gewidmet.

Im vierten Kapitel wird der Umfang der professionellen Besch"aftigung der deutschen Bev"olkerung in Armawir gezeigt.

Das f"unfte Kapitel besch"aftigt sich mit dem Problem der sozialen und ethnischen Konsolidierung der Deutschen in Armawir, so betrachten die Autoren Themen wie Religion, Bildung, soziales Umfeld und die Verwandtschaftsverh"altnisse der verschiedenen sozialen, konfessionellen und territorialen (nach Auswanderungsort) Gruppen der Russlanddeutschen.

Der Alltag der Deutschen, ihre Wohngebiete in Armawir, die Lebensbedingungen und das Niveau des materiellen Wohlstands werden in Kapitel sechs er"ortert.

Im siebten Kapitel reflektieren die Autoren die Besonderheiten des politischen Lebens der kleinen ethnischen und kulturellen Gruppen von Deutschen in Bedingungen des s"udrussischen Provinz seit dem Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis zum Jahr 1941. Im gleichen Teil der Abhandlung werden kurz die Geschichten von den akuten Problemen der Armawir-Deutschen w"ahrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs und den ersten Nachkriegsjahren behandelt.

Das letzte achte Kapitel widmet sich der Analyse von Ver"anderungen der Anzahl der Deutschen in Kuban und Armawir in der zweiten H"alfte des 20.
– Anfang 21. Jahrhunderts, sowie den Etappen der Geschichte der deutschen gesellschaftlichen Vereinigungen in der Stadt von 1990 bis zur Gegenwart.

Die Monographie enth"alt umfangreiche Anlagen, die eine Vielzahl von Tabellen, Diagramme, Abbildungen etc. beinhalten. Von besonderem Interesse f"ur die Nachkommen der Armawir-Deutschen ist das genealogische Lexikon, der auf einer sorgf"altigen Abw"agung der metrischen B"ucher aus dem lutherischen Gotteshaus in Armawir (von 1889 bis 1921) und einzelnen Aktb"ucher aus dem Archiv des "ortlichen Standesamtes von 1920 bis 1930 basiert.

Der Text des Buches ist in leicht verst"andlicher Sprache geschrieben, und nicht nur an professionelle Historiker, sondern auch an ein breiteres Publikum der Leser adressiert.
