"Did you happen to meet a man called Neville there?"
"Oh, yes, he outspanned alongside of me for a fortnight, to rest his oxen before going on to the interior. I had a letter from a lawyer, a few months back, asking me if I knew what had become of him, which I answered to the best of my ability at the time."
"Yes," said Sir Henry, "your letter was forwarded to me (ваше письмо было препровождено мне; to forward — помогать, способствовать; пересылать, препровождать). You said in it that the gentleman called Neville left Bamangwato in the beginning of May (вы сообщили в нем, что джентльмен по фамилии Невилль покинул Бамангвато в начале мая), in a wagon (в фургоне), with a driver (с погонщиком), a voorlooper (проводником /нидерл./), and a Kaffir hunter called Jim (и охотником-кафром по имени Джим), announcing his intention of trekking, if possible, as far as Inyati (сообщив о своем намерении добраться в фургоне, если /это будет/ возможным, до Иньяти; to announce — объявлять, заявлять; to intend — намереваться/делать что-либо/; intention — намерение, стремление; as far as — до/какого-либо места/), the extreme trading post in the Matabele[12] country (самой отдаленной фактории в стране /народа/ Матабеле; trading post — фактория, торговый пост), where he would sell his wagon and proceed on foot (где он /собирался/ продать свой фургон и продолжить путь пешком; to proceed —продолжить движение/в определенном направлении после остановки/).
