Just before dinner two telegrams were handed in. The first ran:—

"Have just heard that Barrymore is at the Hall. — BASKERVILLE." The second:—

"Visited twenty-three hotels as directed, but sorry to report unable to trace cut sheet of Times. — CARTWRIGHT."
