The ladies of the Court often invited Glumdalclitch to their rooms I would be invited to come along as well (меня приглашали вместе с ней; to come along — сопровождать /кого-л./, идти /с кем-л./; as well — также, тоже). They liked to talk to me (они любили беседовать со мной), and I would often be placed on a table for this purpose (и с этой целью часто ставили меня на стол).
actually ['xkCVqlI], talon ['txlqn], nuisance ['njHsqns]
Unfortunately, I was allowed very little time to myself after that accident. Glumdalclitch didn't want me out of her sight unless I was in my box. Actually, I had earlier had several slight accidents that I hadn't told her about. Large birds, for example, were always a danger. Once or twice I came close to being carried off in their talons. Small birds, on the other hand, were only a nuisance. They weren't in the least afraid of me. They would steal food from my hand when I tried to eat out of doors.

I hated being there (я ненавидел бывать там), sitting on the dressing table (сидя на туалетном столике) while they changed their clothes (пока они переодевались: «меняли свою одежду»). They didn't mind in the least (они не видели совершенно ничего особенного/зазорного /в том/; to mind — обращать внимание, считаться /с чем-л./; остерегаться; заботиться; волноваться; возражать, иметь что-л. против) stripping to the skin (чтобы раздеться донага: «до кожи») while I was present (в моем присутствии: «когда я присутствовал»). It felt very strange to be treated like this (я чувствовал себя очень странно/неловко от того, что ко мне относились таким образом; strange — чужой; чуждый; странный, чудной; непривычный; неловкий, смущенный), as if I were a kitten (как будто бы я котенок) or an insect (или насекомое) that happened to be in the same room (случайно оказавшееся в той же комнате). For me, it was very far from being a pleasant sight In fact it was a horrible sight Their skin was so coarse and rough To be close to a mole (находиться вблизи родинки), a vast black thing (огромного черного предмета/тела = пятна) with hairs as long as ropes (с волосками, длинными как веревки), was something that disgusted me (было для меня омерзительно: «было тем, что внушало мне отвращение»). To tell the truth (по правде говоря), the smell that came from their skins also disgusted me (запах, исходящий от их кожи , тоже вызывал у меня отвращение).

I remember a friend of mine in Lilliput telling me one day when I had taken a lot of exercise т. п.) that I had a strong smell (что от меня исходит сильный запах). I suppose his sense of smell in regard to me was as strong (полагаю, что его обоняние: «чувство запаха» было таким же сильным = тонким по отношению ко мне) as my own sense of smell in regard to these ladies of the Court (как мое обоняние по отношению к этим придворным дамам). I do not intend any lack of respect to the people of Brobdingnag in telling these facts (рассказывая об этих обстоятельствах, я /вовсе/ не выражаю /этим/ пренебрежения: «недостаток/отсутствие уважения» к жителям Бробдингнага; to intend — намереваться; хотеть; иметь в виду, подразумевать). Perhaps I should add (пожалуй, мне следует прибавить) that both Glumdalclitch and the Queen always smelled very pleasant indeed (что и Глюмдалклич, и королева имели поистине очень приятный запах; deed — дело; действительность, факт; indeed — в действительности; в самом деле; /для усиления/ безусловно, конечно и т. п.).

The greatest danger I was ever placed in (величайшая опасность, какой только: «когда-либо» я подвергался; to place — помещать; размещать; ставить /в какую-л. ситуацию/) during my stay in that country (во время моего пребывания в той стране) came about (приключилась) while I was sitting quietly in my bedroom box one day (когда однажды я спокойно сидел в моем спальном ящике). I had my door and windows open (дверь и окна у меня были открыты) since it was a very warm day (так как день был очень теплый). My box had been placed in Glumdalclitch's room (мой ящик был поставлен = стоял в комнате Глюмдалклич) while she was off somewhere (пока = а /сама/ она куда-то ушла). She had locked her door (она заперла дверь), but left her window open (но свое окно = окно своей комнаты оставила открытым). I became aware of a noise at her window (внезапно я услышал какой-то шум у ее окна; to become aware — ощущать, воспринимать; осознавать, сознавать). Something was skipping about from one side to the other Looking out my own window (выглянув из своего окна), I froze with fright (я замер от ужаса; to freeze — замерзать, смерзаться; замирать, застывать /прям. и перен./) when I saw that it was a monkey (когда увидел, что это была обезьяна). This monkey belonged to one of the workers in the Palace kitchen
